Finding a therapist
The most important aspect of counseling is a good fit between the counselor and the client.
I know it's not easy to tell online which therapist is a good fit for you. So please call me to find out more about my style of therapy. I welcome your questions and would be happy to help you find the right therapist for you, whether it's me or someone else.
If it would be helpful, I have several names of skilled counselors if you'd like multiple recommendations. You can reach me via the contact form.
Therapist Search Resources
Here are a few online directories to help you find a therapist near you.
When you meet with a prospective therapist, be sure to ask questions about their training and approach, and do share any concerns or questions you have. Some questions you might want to ask:
How many years have you been in practice?
What is your experience and training for dealing with [the issue you’d like to resolve]?
What do you consider to be your specialty or area of expertise?
What kinds of treatments have you found effective in resolving [the issue you’d like to resolve]?
If you are looking for a couples therapist, be sure to ask about their couples’ therapy training.
What insurance do you accept? Are you part of my insurance network?
In addition to questions like these, you should feel respected, heard, and that your values are being honored by the process. If you don't, it might be helpful to talk with the therapist about your concerns or keep looking.
Good luck!
